About Jordan Lake
Jordan Lake is a 13,900-acre reservoir in the heart of North Carolina's Research Triangle, making it one of the most accessible fishing and boating destinations for residents of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Impounded on the Haw River and New Hope Creek, this U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake features 180 miles of wooded shoreline with numerous coves, points, and creek channels that provide outstanding habitat for largemouth bass, striped bass, and crappie.
The lake is renowned for its striped bass fishery, with fish regularly exceeding 20 pounds caught by trolling or casting live bait along the main lake channel. Largemouth bass fishing is equally productive, especially around fallen timber and submerged structure in the upper reaches. Crappie anglers flock to the standing timber areas during spring spawning runs, and catfish provide excellent year-round action on the deeper flats.
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area offers multiple public boat ramps, swim beaches, and over 1,000 campsites spread across several access areas. The lake also serves as a critical drinking water supply for the Triangle region. Bald eagles nest along the shores, and wildlife viewing opportunities abound throughout the year.
