Leech Lake is the third largest lake in Minnesota, covering over 111,000 acres in Cass County. This legendary fishing destination is renowned for its world-class walleye and musky fishing. The lake's diverse structure — from shallow weed-covered bays to deep rock reefs dropping to 156 feet — supports a remarkable fishery that attracts anglers from across the Midwest.

Walleye are the main draw at Leech Lake, with fish commonly caught in the 2- to 5-pound range and true trophies exceeding 10 pounds taken each season. The lake is also one of the top musky waters in the state, producing fish over 50 inches regularly. Northern pike, yellow perch, crappie, bluegill, and largemouth bass round out the diverse species list and provide excellent action throughout the open water season and into the ice fishing months.

The charming town of Walker sits on the western shore and serves as the hub for fishing activity on the lake. Walker hosts the International Eelpout Festival each winter and offers full marina services, bait shops, lodging, and restaurants. Federal Dam and Whipholt provide additional access points along the southern and eastern shores.
