Cass Lake is a unique Minnesota fishing destination best known for containing Star Island, which itself contains a small lake — making it one of the few lakes within an island within a lake in the world. Covering 15,596 acres on the Cass-Beltrami county line, Cass Lake is part of the Mississippi River chain of lakes and offers diverse fishing opportunities with depths reaching 115 feet.

Walleye fishing is the primary attraction, with the lake producing consistent catches from spring through fall. Northern pike reach impressive sizes in Cass Lake's fertile waters, and yellow perch provide reliable action for families and ice anglers alike. Largemouth bass inhabit the weedy bays, while crappie and tulibee round out the available species.

The town of Cass Lake sits on the south shore and provides boat launches, bait shops, lodging, and dining. Bemidji, home of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, is a short drive north and offers additional amenities. The Chippewa National Forest surrounds much of the lake, adding to its natural beauty and providing excellent camping and hiking options.
