About Lake Minnetonka
Lake Minnetonka is the most popular lake in the Twin Cities metro area and one of the most recognizable lakes in Minnesota. Spanning 14,528 acres across Hennepin and Carver counties, this sprawling lake features 125 miles of shoreline, numerous bays, and over a dozen named sub-lakes connected by channels. With depths reaching 113 feet, Minnetonka supports a diverse fishery that includes musky, walleye, bass, and panfish.
Musky fishing has become the signature pursuit on Lake Minnetonka, with the lake producing trophy fish over 50 inches each season. Walleye, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass provide year-round angling opportunities, while crappie and sunfish offer excellent panfishing action in the lake's many protected bays. Despite heavy recreational boat traffic during summer, knowledgeable anglers find productive fishing throughout the season.
The communities of Wayzata, Excelsior, Mound, and Tonka Bay line the shores and offer dining, shopping, and entertainment. Lake Minnetonka is just 15 miles west of downtown Minneapolis, making it easily accessible for day trips and after-work fishing outings. Public boat launches provide access to the lake's vast network of bays and channels.
