About Boysen Reservoir
Boysen Reservoir is a 19,500-acre impoundment on the Wind River in central Wyoming, located within the Wind River Canyon between Shoshoni and Thermopolis. The reservoir is one of Wyoming's top walleye fisheries, with consistent catches of fish in the 16- to 22-inch range and trophy walleye exceeding 10 pounds taken each season. Sauger, the walleye's smaller cousin, are also abundant and provide fast action in the current-influenced areas near the river inflow.
Boysen State Park manages several boat ramps and campgrounds around the reservoir, and the Wind River Canyon provides a dramatic scenic backdrop with towering red rock walls rising from the water's edge. Yellow perch are extremely abundant and offer excellent panfishing, particularly during winter ice fishing. Channel catfish grow to impressive sizes in the warm, fertile waters, and rainbow trout are found in the cooler sections near the dam. Ling, or burbot, are caught during the colder months and add a unique element to Boysen's diverse fishery. The reservoir's central Wyoming location makes it accessible from Casper, Riverton, and Cody.
