About Lake Anna

Lake Anna is a 13,000-acre reservoir in central Virginia that offers a unique fishing experience due to its warm-water discharge from the North Anna Nuclear Power Station. The lake is divided into a public side and a warm side, with the heated water on the warm side extending the growing season and creating year-round fishing opportunities that are rare at this latitude. Largemouth bass grow exceptionally fast in the warm side and reach trophy sizes, while the public side offers more traditional seasonal fishing patterns.

Lake Anna State Park and several public boat ramps provide access to both sides of the reservoir. Striped bass fishing is excellent in the deeper channels and around the discharge area, where warm water attracts baitfish and predators throughout the winter months. Crappie and bluegill are abundant in the standing timber and brush piles that dot the lake's many coves, providing outstanding panfish opportunities for families. The lake's location about 60 miles from Richmond and 90 miles from Washington, D.C., makes it a popular weekend fishing destination for anglers from both metro areas.
