About Depoe Bay
Depoe Bay holds the Guinness World Record as the smallest navigable harbor on Earth, yet this tiny Lincoln County port punches far above its weight as one of Oregon's most exciting and productive fishing destinations. The harbor entrance is a narrow channel carved through solid basalt, just 50 feet wide, through which charter and private boats navigate to access some of the richest nearshore fishing waters on the Pacific coast. Depths of 30 feet and beyond are found just minutes from the harbor mouth, where rocky reefs and kelp forests teem with marine life.
Lingcod and Rockfish are the bread and butter of the Depoe Bay fishery, with the nearshore reefs producing outstanding catches of these hard-fighting bottomfish throughout much of the year. Halibut fishing draws anglers from across the state during spring and summer openers, and Chinook Salmon trolling is productive from July through September as fish move along the coast. Dungeness Crab rounding out the harvest, with crabbers dropping pots in the waters just outside the harbor entrance.
Despite its diminutive size, Depoe Bay supports a fleet of charter boats that specialize in short-run offshore trips, making it possible to be fishing productive water within minutes of leaving the dock. The harbor's protected location and close proximity to fishing grounds also make it one of the safest departure points on the Oregon coast, with fewer bar crossings required than larger ports. Whether you are watching gray whales from the seawall between trips or heading out for a limit of Lingcod on a half-day charter, Depoe Bay offers a uniquely intimate Oregon coast fishing experience.
