About Berlin Lake
Berlin Lake is a 3,590-acre Army Corps of Engineers reservoir spanning Portage, Mahoning, and Stark counties in northeast Ohio. The lake is notable for its clear water and significant depth, reaching 65 feet near the dam, which supports a productive walleye and musky fishery. Berlin's well-managed fish populations make it one of the more reliable lakes in the region for quality catches.
Walleye and saugeye are actively stocked and provide excellent fishing, particularly during spring and fall when fish move shallow and feed aggressively. The musky fishery has produced fish over 50 inches, and Berlin is considered one of the top musky lakes in Ohio. Crappie fishing around submerged timber and brush in the upper arms is consistently productive.
Berlin Lake State Wildlife Area provides several launch ramps and shore fishing access. The lake's location between Akron and Youngstown makes it accessible to a large population base, and the surrounding Amish country offers a unique cultural backdrop for fishing trips. The relatively low horsepower limits help maintain a peaceful atmosphere on the water.
