Canandaigua Lake is one of the most beautiful of New York's Finger Lakes, stretching 15.5 miles through the rolling hills of Ontario and Yates counties. With 10,553 acres of clear water reaching depths of 276 feet, the lake provides excellent habitat for both cold-water and warm-water fish species. The name Canandaigua comes from the Seneca word meaning "the chosen spot," and anglers who fish these waters quickly understand why.

Lake trout are the primary cold-water target, with fish commonly caught in the 3- to 10-pound range using downrigger trolling techniques in the lake's deep central basin. Rainbow trout add variety to the cold-water fishery and are particularly active during spring and fall. Smallmouth bass fishing is exceptional along the lake's rocky eastern shore, while largemouth bass inhabit the weedier southern end near Naples. Yellow perch and northern pike round out the fishery and provide consistent action throughout the season.

The city of Canandaigua at the lake's north end is a vibrant community with excellent restaurants, shops, and the historic Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center. The village of Naples at the south end is famous for its grape festival and serves as a gateway to the surrounding wine country. Public launches at both ends of the lake ensure convenient access for visiting anglers.
