Round Valley Reservoir is the deepest lake in New Jersey at 180 feet, and its cold, clear waters create a unique fishery unmatched elsewhere in the state. The reservoir supports a thriving lake trout population that is maintained through stocking by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, with fish regularly exceeding 20 inches. Brown trout and rainbow trout also grow to impressive sizes in these deep, well-oxygenated waters, making Round Valley a pilgrimage destination for Garden State trout anglers.

The reservoir's steep, rocky shoreline and limited access points contribute to its relatively low fishing pressure compared to other New Jersey waters. A boat ramp at Round Valley Recreation Area provides the primary access for motorized boats, while a wilderness camping area on the far shore can be reached only by boat or on foot.
